If you've visited Edinburgh, you'll likely have found plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants to fill your bellies in. It's the kind of city where you can just wander in unplanned and still expect some good grub. But we know sometimes, you want something a little extra or you just want that guaranteed easy eating experience with the kids in tow so here you'll find our top family friendly places to eat in Edinburgh :-)

With good Scottish fare, The Scran (meaning food) and Scallie (short for Scallywag) is one of Edinburgh's top gastropubs. Where else can you expect scran from Michelin star chefs AND a children's play area on site. Highlights include their Highland Wagyu beef burger and seasonal mains such as their Whole lobster with garlic and parsley butter. Bonus, children have their own Scallies Menu featuring classic pub food and children's portions of some of the mains from the adult menu are available on request.

2. The Storytelling Cafe

Much more casual and right in the heart of Edinburgh's city centre, the Storytelling Cafe is a great escape from the bustle of the Royal Mile. It's a peaceful, locally owned place with an activity box and a Storywall to keep children entertained while you munch on their delicious cakes and sandwiches. Keep an eye out for their organised family-friendly events, especially around Scottish holidays such as Burns Night.

3. Mary's Milk Bar

19 Grassmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2HS

Fresh Gelato and chocolate made every single day? Sign us up! And it's Mary herself who still gets up to make everything from scratch in the morning. With that dedication and Mary's training in Italy, it's no wonder that Mary's Milk Bar is known by locals as the best spot for ice cream. The flavours also change every day and it's always a delight trying out their latest concoctions. Too cold for gelato? Pick your favourite gelato and try it in a hot chocolate float instead!

4. La Favorita Pizzeria

If you're down in Leith, La Favorita is the place to be (especially on Sundays when they have an incredible offer where children can choose a main from the children's menu for £1!!) With pizza and pasta galore, everyone loves La Favorita and the staff, in true Italian style, make a big fuss over the kids. Definitely not one to miss.
