All the latest inspiration and guidance for help you plan your next family hoilday

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ras al Khaimah, which is a one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. A short hour and a half drive from Dubai (sometimes less with the traffic), Ras al Khaimah is a hidden gem for families and well worth the visit from Dubai.

RAK as it is popularly known, is home to wonderful sandy beaches, sprawling desert and very family friendly luxury hotels.

On my visit, I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island, a 5 star hotel that has children at its heart.

The beach is private and ideal for younger children with plenty of shallow water for them to safely play around in.

The rooms are wonderfully spacious, with interconnecting rooms available on request. With plenty of space inside the room for families who want to be in one space, as well as the flexibility to spread yourselves over two rooms, it was a brilliant set up for a family like mine.

The addition of a spacious and safe outdoor space (you would still need to keep younger kids supervised), made this family room layout one of the best I've experienced in my travels to the UAE.

And when it comes to breakfast, the huge buffet is sure to keep even the fussiest eaters happy. With plenty of fresh fruit, as well as treats like waffles and pancakes, and freshly cooked eggs, it ticked all my boxes for what a good hotel breakfast should be.

As for exploring RAK, when you visit here it really is for the hotels and the peacefulness you get from being outside of Dubai. I can see why RAK is such a popular staycation resort for locals.

Near the end of my stay in RAK, we passed by what is commonly referred to as the best hotel in the UAE - the Ritz Carlton Al Wadi Desert. A sumptuous desert hotel, where luxury meets experience. Their villas combine all elements of luxury you would expect from Ritz Carlton and then some. As you walk straight onto the desert from your villa, you will get to experience true desert luxury! It's worth noting that the maximum capacity in their villas is 2 adults and 1 child, so best for families of 3. Or an adult-only get away if you have childcare with you in Dubai for your children.

If you are looking to break up a trip to Dubai with a few nights away from the wonderful hustle and bustle, Ras al Khaimah could be your perfect solution. And with luxury hotels at cheaper price points than Dubai, it's definitely worth having a chat with our concierge team if this sounds right down your street!
